Patna, 6th June: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi rejected the revised security cover provided by the Bihar government after their Z-plus security was withdrawn following a review of VIP security arrangements in the state.

The senior RJD leaders reportedly sent back the newly deployed security personnel stationed outside their residence at 10, Circular Road in Patna, expressing dissatisfaction with the downgraded security arrangement.

The Bihar government had recently replaced their Z-plus security cover with a revised deployment comprising personnel from the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), bodyguards from the Patna District Force, and a pilot vehicle along with a bulletproof car.

Visuals from the residence showed RJD workers standing guard outside the premises, with some carrying sticks.

Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav also returned his Y-category security cover in protest against the government’s decision.

RJD leaders accused the Nitish Kumar-led government of deliberately reducing security for the Yadav family.

Lalu Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya alleged that the move was aimed at endangering the family and described it as politically motivated.

“Given that there is no point in retaining a mere facade of security after such a reduction, Rabri Devi ji has decided to send the security personnel back from her official residence,” Acharya said in a post on X.

In another message, she appealed to RJD supporters to gather outside the family residence and demonstrate solidarity with the party leadership.

“The entire nation and all of Bihar are witnessing how Bihar’s first female chief minister and her family are being harassed,” she said.

RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav claimed that more party leaders could return their security cover in the coming days as a mark of protest.

The controversy comes amid another dispute involving the Yadav family. The Bihar government’s Building Construction Department recently allotted Rabri Devi’s long-occupied government bungalow at 10, Circular Road to Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister Nand Kishor Ram.

The order, issued on May 27, directed Rabri Devi to vacate the premises.

However, the former Chief Minister has refused to leave the bungalow.

Speaking to reporters after returning from Delhi, Rabri Devi said she would not vacate the residence voluntarily.

“I can see Samrat Choudhary is quite excited upon becoming the Chief Minister. Let his government evict me by force. I am not going to vacate the house,” she said.

The twin controversies over security arrangements and the government bungalow have intensified the political confrontation between the ruling NDA and the opposition RJD ahead of the upcoming electoral battles in Bihar.
