New Delhi, 8th June: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Monday said that Garib Kalyan remains the topmost priority of the Narendra Modi government, asserting that welfare initiatives over the past 12 years have transformed the lives of millions across the country.

In a post on X, Shah said the government’s pro-poor programmes have connected crores of citizens with banking services, financial security and self-employment opportunities, helping integrate them into the economic mainstream.

“Garib Kalyan is the topmost priority of the Modi government,” Shah said while highlighting the achievements of the government’s welfare initiatives under the theme “#12YearsOfGaribKalyan.”

The Home Minister said schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jan-Dhan Yojana, Mudra Loan Scheme and PM SVANidhi have expanded access to essential services and economic opportunities for the poor.

According to Shah, these initiatives have strengthened financial inclusion by bringing millions into the formal banking system while also providing support for entrepreneurship and livelihood generation.

He said the government’s efforts have focused on improving the standard of living of economically weaker sections through better infrastructure, social security coverage and targeted welfare programmes.

Shah added that connecting the poor to the country’s growth process is helping create a strong foundation for the vision of a developed India.

“By integrating the country’s poor into the economic mainstream through basic infrastructure, social security and a better standard of living, a strong foundation for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ is being built,” he said.

The remarks come as the Centre marks 12 years of welfare-focused governance, with senior leaders highlighting the impact of flagship schemes aimed at financial inclusion, housing, healthcare, sanitation and livelihood support.

The government has repeatedly emphasised that inclusive development and empowerment of the poor remain central to its long-term development agenda and its goal of building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
