Respect no more ? Youth Normalizing Abusive Language and Dark Comedy?

Poonam Sharma

Why Are Our Youth Using Abusive Language to Mock Women?

Look around—what has happened to the respect that once defined Indian society?

Why do we see countless videos where young people proudly use words like “maderchod,” “behenchod,” “gaandfati“Etc. in maximum comedy shows in stand up comedy and TV series of Netflix  Amazon and where not ? as if they were badges of honor? Why is it so common now to hear women, especially mothers and sisters, insulted openly in the name of comedy? How can one do it ? Aren’t we Humans anymore ? Where is the line that has been crossed so openly? Is this really humor? Or is it the decay of our conscience? When did making rape and murder the butt of jokes become acceptable? How can any sense of humor come from a place that abuses and insults rather than uplifts and respects?

To the Youth: What Are You Really Laughing At?

Young people, to be asked —what kind of culture are we  building? Is this way the parents and the institutions you come from are training you.

Are we really  proud of a culture that mocks women, glorifies vulgarity, and normalizes violence? When you laugh at these so-called jokes, are you aware of the damage you cause to the dignity of your mothers, sisters, and daughters? Is this the legacy you want to leave behind? Is this the respect you have for your family and community?

To the Information and Broadcasting Authorities:

When Will You Act?Why are channels and social media platforms flooded with content that openly abuses women and glorifies obscene language? When will the Information and Broadcasting Ministry step in to stop this flood of indecency?Isn’t it your responsibility to protect the cultural fabric of this nation? Why are you silent while this toxic content becomes mainstream? When will you ban content that uses rape and murder as jokes and normalizes such heinous ideas? The Culture We Are Losing India’s culture has always respected women as the embodiment of strength and dignity. Mothers, sisters, and daughters were never subjects of vulgar jokes or abuse. Yet today, this rich tradition is being replaced by an uncivilized culture obsessed with shock value and rebellion against all manners. Is this what “wokeism” has brought us? A generation where children are enemies of their parents, where respect is replaced by defiance, and where the very essence of politeness and decency is mocked? What About the Parents? Where Is the Control?Parents, when did you stop being the guiding force in your children’s lives? How is it that these harmful videos and slang flood their minds unchecked? Why are we letting this “nonstop nonsense comedy” dominate our children’s worldview without saying a word?Is it fear, helplessness, or resignation? Whatever it is, it’s time to reclaim our role. The silence is allowing this cultural rot to grow.

And Feminist Groups: Why the Silence?Where are the voices of feminist organizations?

Why aren’t they loudly condemning the widespread abuse of women in media and comedy? Women are being insulted publicly and turned into laughing stock—why is this not a national outrage? Is feminism only about the big battles? What about the everyday war being waged on the dignity of women through words and jokes?

The Dark Comedy Artists: Are They Responsible?

Artists like Kenny Sebastian, Zakir Khan, Biswa Kalyan Rath have shaped youth comedy, sometimes pushing boundaries. But what about the countless others who flood social media with abusive, misogynistic, and violent jokes? Are these creators aware of the damage they are doing by making rape and murder a punchline? Or is the quest for views and popularity more important than respect for human dignity? It’s Time to Wake Up and Take ResponsibilityThis isn’t just about words—it’s about the soul of our nation. The careless use of abusive language and the normalization of dark, vulgar comedy is destroying the respect that holds society together.

To the youth: Stop glorifying disrespect. To the parents:

It is hight time we reclaim control and guide your children ensuring  the authorities to  Enforce strict regulations against abusive content. The  feminist groups need  Raise your voice loudly and clearly. We must act now—before this rot spreads beyond repair. Our culture, our women, and our future deserve better. Will we let our values be drowned out by the noise of abuse? Or will we stand up and demand respect, dignity, and decency once again? The choice is ours.
