Kolkata, 19th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit West Bengal on June 20 and 21 to participate in Paschimbanga Divas celebrations, launch major development projects, release the 23rd instalment of PM-KISAN and lead the 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations.
During the Paschimbanga Divas programme at Tarakeswar in Hooghly district on June 20, the Prime Minister will inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stones for projects related to railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry.
Modi will release ₹18,880 crore under the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), benefiting more than 9.44 crore farmers across the country. In West Bengal, over 45 lakh farmers will receive benefits worth more than ₹900 crore.
The Prime Minister will also launch several key agricultural initiatives in the state, including the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, AgriStack under the Digital Agriculture Mission, National Mission on Natural Farming and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana.
In the fisheries and animal husbandry sectors, he will inaugurate the modernised Fishing Harbour at Fraserganj, a new fish market at Sainthia and Eastern India’s first Regional Semen Production Laboratory and Semen Bank for Goats at Haringhata.
The visit will also see the launch of railway projects worth around ₹590 crore, including the Sankrail-Santragachi Link Line Project, the foundation stone laying of a 300-bed railway hospital in Howrah and a road overbridge in Purba Medinipur. Modi will also inaugurate 49 road projects under PMGSY-III covering over 315 kilometres.
On June 21, the Prime Minister will lead the national celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga at Red Road in Kolkata. The theme of this year’s event is “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, highlighting the role of yoga in promoting physical and mental well-being.
Later, Modi will commission three indigenously designed and built naval ships — INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray — at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata. Built with the participation of more than 200 MSMEs and having over 75 per cent indigenous content, the ships mark another step towards strengthening India’s self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
