New Delhi, 20th June: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Saturday said that IITs have carried forward India’s ancient knowledge traditions of Takshashila, Nalanda and Vikramshila into the era of modern science and technology, making them symbols of innovation and nation-building.
Addressing the launch of the book “IIT – The Story of India’s Most Prestigious Educational Ecosystem” at IIT Delhi, Birla said the journey of IITs, which began with IIT Kharagpur, has grown into a network of 23 premier institutions whose alumni are contributing to global leadership across various fields.
He described the transformation of the historic Hijli Detention Camp into IIT Kharagpur as a powerful symbol of India’s journey from struggle to creation and towards a self-reliant nation.
Highlighting India’s transition from “brain drain” to “brain gain”, Birla said the country’s growing capabilities in artificial intelligence, robotics, space technology, green energy and advanced manufacturing are creating new opportunities for global leadership.
He said IITs have played a crucial role in developing a culture of excellence in research, technology and entrepreneurship, and urged young innovators to combine personal success with responsibility towards society and the nation.
The Lok Sabha Speaker called for collective efforts from educational institutions, scientists, industries and youth to realise the vision of a developed India, adding that the next generation of IITians would strengthen India’s position on the global stage.
