Jabalpur, 21st June: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday participated in a mass yoga demonstration in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga and described yoga as a powerful medium that connects individuals with themselves, society with nature and humanity with universal consciousness.

Extending greetings to yoga practitioners across the world, the President said yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s cultural heritage that has shown humanity the path of a healthy, balanced and meaningful life.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” Murmu said yoga promotes a healthy, active, self-reliant and dignified life, especially for elderly citizens. She said adopting a healthy lifestyle today lays the foundation for better health in the future.

The President noted that the United Nations recognised June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 following India’s initiative, which helped strengthen yoga’s role as a global movement for health and well-being.

She said the Government of India is continuously promoting yoga through education, research, training and awareness programmes and appreciated organisations working to spread yoga worldwide.
