Victoria (Seychelles), 29th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’ Presidential Distinction, Seychelles’ highest civilian honour, by President Dr. Patrick Herminie in recognition of his global leadership in climate action, environmental conservation and the promotion of the Blue Economy.
The distinction, bestowed for the first time, honours Modi’s efforts to advance the interests of developing nations, support sustainable management of ocean resources and champion the aspirations of Small Island Developing States.
Accepting the award, the Prime Minister dedicated it to all countries committed to protecting the environment and combating climate change. He said the recognition, awarded as India and Seychelles celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations, would further strengthen the special friendship between the two nations.
The honour also acknowledges Modi’s initiatives, including the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign and the International Big Cat Alliance, which have promoted sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
The Government said the award reflects Seychelles’ recognition of India’s growing role as a trusted partner in capacity building, climate action, sustainable development and regional cooperation across the Indian Ocean.
