New Delhi, 29th June: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday said a Healthy India is the foundation of Viksit Bharat 2047, stressing that strong Centre-State cooperation is essential to achieving universal access to affordable, equitable and quality healthcare.
Chairing the 16th Conference of the Central Council of Health and Family Welfare (CCHFW), Nadda said health remains one of the most critical pillars of national development and described States and Union Territories as equal partners in India’s healthcare success story.
Highlighting the transformation of the health sector over the past decade, the Minister said the National Health Policy 2017 shifted India’s healthcare model from predominantly curative care to a comprehensive approach covering preventive, promotive, curative, palliative and rehabilitative services. He noted that nearly 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 23 new AIIMS and more than 157 medical colleges have significantly strengthened the country’s healthcare infrastructure.
Nadda said India’s Maternal Mortality Ratio has declined from 130 to 87 per one lakh live births since 2014, while under-five and neonatal mortality have fallen sharply. He also highlighted the success of Mission Indradhanush, the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign and significant progress in the fight against tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy and other communicable diseases.
During the conference, the Union Health Minister launched several key initiatives, including the Operational Guidelines on National Ambulance Services (NAS) 2026, SUMAN Roadmap 2030, the Samagra Shishu Bal Swasthya Karyakram (SSBSK) and the revamped Anaemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to strengthen emergency care, maternal and child health, community healthcare and anaemia control across the country.
The conference concluded with a renewed commitment by the Centre and States to build stronger public health systems and accelerate healthcare reforms in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
