New Delhi, 2nd July: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the construction of the 117.7-km Kanpur–Kabrai Access-Controlled Greenfield Highway in Uttar Pradesh at a cost of ₹7,145.14 crore.
The four-lane corridor, designed for future six-laning, will be developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the BOT (Toll) model as part of the Bhopal–Kanpur Economic Corridor under the National Highways Programme.
The highway is expected to reduce travel time between Kanpur and Kabrai from 3.5 hours to 1.5 hours, improving connectivity to Sagar, Bhopal and other parts of Madhya Pradesh. It will also enhance freight movement, road safety and logistics efficiency by linking industrial, mining and agricultural hubs across the two states.
The project will connect major highways, the Bundelkhand Expressway, Kanpur Ring Road, industrial clusters, airports, railway stations and logistics hubs under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, strengthening regional economic growth.
According to the government, the project is expected to generate nearly 1.2 crore person-days of employment during construction while supporting long-term industrial development and improving transport infrastructure in the Bundelkhand region.
