New Delhi, 6th July: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the cooperative movement will become the foundation of a Viksit Bharat by 2047, asserting that the Ministry of Cooperation has transformed the sector into a modern, transparent and technology-driven ecosystem over the past five years.
Addressing the fifth Foundation Day celebrations of the Ministry of Cooperation, Shah said the ministry has infused new energy into the lives of nearly 30 crore people associated with over 8.5 lakh cooperative institutions. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating the ministry in 2021, calling it a landmark step for rural development.
The minister said the government has established nine national-level cooperative societies, created a digital database of more than 32 crore cooperative members, and expanded the cooperative model into sectors such as agriculture, dairy, banking, logistics, mobility, organic farming and renewable energy.
Highlighting key achievements, Shah said 50,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) have been digitised as e-PACS, cooperative banks have strengthened their financial performance, and new initiatives are connecting farmers with global markets through improved seed production, organic farming and value-added agriculture. He also announced measures to expand White Revolution 2.0, strengthen dairy cooperatives and promote the circular economy.
During the event, Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several cooperative projects, including grain storage facilities, digital platforms, dairy initiatives and seed infrastructure, while also releasing model bye-laws for dairy cooperative societies.
