New Delhi, 11th July: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the Jayaprakash Narayan Library in New Delhi and called upon the youth to develop the habit of reading, saying the future of a nation is shaped by the number of young people studying in its libraries.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Shah said knowledge and wisdom are the foundation of nation-building and libraries are the best institutions to nurture them.
“A nation’s future is shaped not by agriculture, markets or industry alone, but by the crowds of young people gathering in its libraries,” he said.
The Home Minister urged young people to associate themselves with libraries, saying reading helps develop the ability to distinguish right from wrong and refines one’s personality.
He said the newly inaugurated library houses more than 32,000 books, provides access to one crore free e-books, and includes modern facilities such as a research centre, children’s zone, auditorium, e-library, free Wi-Fi and an RFID-based book management system.
Shah also appealed to the Delhi Government to integrate libraries across the city and connect them with schools to make knowledge more accessible to students.
Paying tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, he recalled his leadership during the Emergency and said JP’s call for “Sampoorna Kranti” inspired the nation to defend democracy.
The Home Minister urged Delhi’s youth to make full use of the library and contribute towards building a self-reliant India by 2047 through knowledge and learning.
