New Delhi, 21st July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Andy Burnham on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressing confidence that the two countries will further deepen their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advance their shared Vision 2035.
In a message posted on X, Modi said India and the United Kingdom are united by shared democratic values and maintain wide-ranging cooperation across trade, investment, technology, defence and people-to-people ties.
The Prime Minister noted that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) entered into force this month, saying the landmark pact would further strengthen bilateral relations and create new opportunities for economic cooperation.
“Warmest congratulations to Mr. Andy Burnham on assuming office as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom,” Modi wrote.
He added that he looks forward to working closely with Burnham to deepen the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and implement the shared Vision 2035 roadmap.
Burnham formally assumed office on July 20 after being appointed by King Charles III, succeeding Keir Starmer as Britain’s Prime Minister. In his first address outside 10 Downing Street, Burnham pledged to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, strengthen public services and build a more united Britain.
