Jagdalpur, 24th Aug: Chhattisgarh Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap escaped unhurt after an SUV collided with his convoy near Junwani on the Jagdalpur-Kondagaon route on Sunday, leaving six people injured, including four police personnel.
According to police, Kashyap was travelling from his native village Farsaguda towards Kondagaon when an SUV coming from the opposite direction collided with his vehicle. The SUV then lost control and rammed into the escort vehicle following the minister’s car.
The impact caused extensive damage to the escort vehicle. The injured included the minister’s personal assistant Anurag Sharma, escort vehicle driver Sunil Kumar Maurya, head constables Rajesh Netam and Sukantin Usendi, and constables Tilotama Dhruv and Narmada Markam.
The injured were initially taken to Kondagaon District Hospital. Police said some of them were subsequently referred to hospitals in Jagdalpur and Raipur for advanced treatment. Sharma was referred to a higher medical facility in Raipur, according to the Station House Officer.
Kashyap later took stock of the condition of the injured personnel and directed doctors to ensure appropriate treatment. He said the injured members of his security detail were immediately taken to hospital.
Police and administrative teams reached the accident site soon after receiving information. The SUV driver was detained for questioning as authorities began examining the circumstances that led to the collision.
Both the minister’s vehicle and the escort vehicle were damaged in the crash. No fatalities have been reported.
The investigation is underway, with police examining the role of speed and other circumstances surrounding the accident. Further updates on the condition of the injured are awaited.
