UP Man Held in Hyderabad for Illegal Arms Sale
Police seize two 9mm pistols, magazines and 19 live rounds in joint operation

Hyderabad, 24th Aug: Malkajgiri commissionerate police have arrested a 27-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly attempting to sell illegal firearms in Hyderabad and recovered two 9mm pistols, three magazines and 19 live rounds during a joint operation.
The accused was identified as Prabhas Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh who was residing in Bihar Basti at Patancheru and working as a daily-wage labourer.
The operation was carried out by the Malkajgiri Zone Special Operations Team (SOT) and Bollaram Law and Order police following specific intelligence regarding the movement of illegal firearms.
Weapons Recovered Near Sadhana Mandir
According to police, Kumar was intercepted near Bungalow No. 13, close to Sadhana Mandir in Bollaram, at around 12:10 pm on August 22.
A search allegedly led to the recovery of two 9mm pistols, three magazines and 17 live rounds. Police also seized a double-barrel tappancha and two additional live rounds, taking the total ammunition recovered to 19 rounds.
Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi said the accused allegedly procured the firearms from outside Telangana with the intention of selling them to people involved in criminal activities in Hyderabad.
Previous NDPS Case Under Probe
Police said Kumar had previously been arrested in a drug-peddling case registered by Cherlapally police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in 2024.
Investigators allege that after his arrest in the drug case, Kumar shifted towards the illegal firearms trade in pursuit of quick money. He allegedly planned to procure weapons at lower prices in North India and sell them at higher prices in Hyderabad.
Police said Kumar travelled to Bihar on August 10 and allegedly contacted a person identified as Sonu, from whom he procured the firearms and ammunition.
Probe Into Arms Network
A case has been registered against Kumar at Bollaram Police Station under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
The investigation is focused on identifying the alleged supplier, tracing the source of the weapons and determining whether Kumar had previously supplied firearms to other individuals.
Police are also examining possible links between the accused and a wider inter-state illegal arms network, while increasing surveillance on the movement of firearms into Hyderabad from other states.
