Jammu, 26th Aug: One labourer was killed and another critically injured after a segment of an under-construction flyover collapsed at Jakh in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The accident occurred around 10 am during work on the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway when a precast segment being launched by a launching girder suddenly came crashing down.
The injured worker was rushed to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is reported to be in critical condition.
Senior officers of the Samba district administration reached the site and monitored the rescue and relief operations. Officials said compensation would be provided to the family of the deceased labourer.
The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been established. Police have taken cognisance of the incident and started an investigation.
An official said the administration’s immediate priority was ensuring the best possible treatment for the injured worker, while the circumstances leading to the collapse would be examined separately.
The 669-km Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway is a major infrastructure project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, being developed at an estimated cost of more than ₹40,000 crore. Once operational, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Katra, while improving connectivity for Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab.
