Piyush Goyal and Thai Deputy PM Suphajee Suthumpun review business ties and progress on AITIGA

New Delhi, 9th Sept: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Suphajee Suthumpun, at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen the India-Thailand economic partnership.

The two Ministers discussed measures to enhance bilateral trade and investment, expand business opportunities and deepen business-to-business linkages between the two countries.

They exchanged views on greater collaboration and co-creation of solutions to promote balanced and sustainable growth in bilateral trade. Both sides also discussed strengthening trade promotion activities to build business networks, facilitate greater business engagement and expand market opportunities for enterprises.

The Ministers reviewed progress on the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) and emphasised the need for deeper bilateral engagement through the India-Thailand Joint Trade Committee (JTC) in a time-bound manner.

Both sides underlined the importance of a balanced and mutually beneficial framework that can support greater market access and create new opportunities for businesses in India and Thailand.

Goyal and Suthumpun also addressed a delegation of Thai businesses operating in areas including space technologies, cold-chain logistics, food processing and innovation, health and wellness, and trade and investment promotion.

India and Thailand share longstanding civilisational, cultural and economic ties as well as a strategic partnership. The two countries have been working to expand bilateral trade and investment and strengthen private-sector cooperation.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to deepen economic engagement, strengthen business partnerships and develop a robust, balanced and mutually beneficial trade and investment relationship.
