Kiren Rijiju Honours National Youth Parliament Winners

New Delhi, 11th Sept: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju distributed shields, trophies and prizes to the winners of the 27th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2025–26 for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas at a function held at GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building on September 10.
PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ukhrul-1, Manipur, from the Shillong Region, emerged as the national winner. The institution was awarded the Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru Running Parliamentary Shield and trophy for securing first position at the national level.
Congratulating the winning team and seven regional winners, Rijiju highlighted the importance of Parliament as a symbol of democracy. He said parliamentary democracy is well suited to India, where citizens govern themselves through elected representatives.
Rijiju also appreciated the work culture of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and their role in shaping students’ character.
Secretary, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Nikunja Bihari Dhal, congratulated the winning teams and said such programmes provide students opportunities to develop personality, critical thinking and teamwork.
Additional Secretary Dr Satya Prakash highlighted the role of principals, teachers and students, drawing on the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara, in contributing towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Students of JNV Ukhrul-1 presented a repeat performance of their Youth Parliament during the function.
The seven regional winners honoured with trophies and prizes were JNV Kollam, Kerala (Hyderabad Region); JNV Theog, Shimla (Chandigarh); JNV Suratgarh, Sriganganagar (Jaipur); JNV Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh (Bhopal); JNV Valsad, Gujarat (Pune); JNV Purulia, West Bengal (Patna); and JNV Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand (Lucknow).
The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organising Youth Parliament Competitions for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the past 30 years. The 27th competition was organised during 2025–26 among 100 Vidyalayas across eight regions of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
The Youth Parliament Scheme provides students a platform to develop eloquence, critical thinking and leadership skills while familiarising them with parliamentary practices, procedures, discussion and debate. The programme also aims to strengthen self-confidence and effective oratory.
