PM Modi, Xi Jinping Discuss India-China Ties at BRICS Summit

• Modi and Xi reviewed steady progress in bilateral relations since their Tianjin meeting in August 2025.
• Both leaders stressed a strategic, long-term approach and agreed differences should not become disputes.
• Border peace and adherence to existing agreements were highlighted as essential for bilateral ties.

New Delhi, 12th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 12 on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi and discussed the steady progress in India-China bilateral relations.

The two leaders reaffirmed the need for a strategic and long-term perspective in bilateral ties. Prime Minister Modi emphasised that differences should not become disputes and said relations should be guided by mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.

Modi stressed that peace and tranquillity in the border areas remain essential for the continued development of bilateral relations. Both leaders underlined the need to observe existing agreements and understandings on border-related issues.

The leaders also expressed commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary question, taking into account the broader political perspective of bilateral relations and the long-term interests of the two peoples.

They noted progress in people-to-people ties and called for greater cultural exchanges, business linkages and mobility. On economic and trade relations, both sides stressed addressing concerns related to structural trade imbalance and supply chains while facilitating meaningful and predictable market access.

The two leaders also agreed to expand common ground on regional and global issues and work together to address emerging challenges.
