New Delhi, 14th Sept: Ganesh Chaturthi is being celebrated across the country with religious fervour and devotion as devotees welcome Lord Ganesha, regarded as a symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
Also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi and Ganesh Utsav, the festival begins with the installation of Lord Ganesha idols at homes and public pandals. This year’s festival falls on September 14, with celebrations being held across several states.
Maharashtra is witnessing particularly vibrant celebrations, with devotees gathering at prominent pandals and participating in prayers, aartis and cultural programmes. Mumbai has seen large crowds at major Ganesh mandals, with authorities making special arrangements for crowd management, traffic, sanitation and emergency services.
The festivities are traditionally marked by devotional songs, bhajans, dances and chants of “Ganapati Bappa Morya.” Devotees offer flowers, modaks and other traditional offerings during the celebrations.
The festival culminates with Ganesh Visarjan, when idols are carried in processions and immersed in water bodies, symbolising the cycle of creation and dissolution. Many devotees observe the festival for different durations before immersion, while Anant Chaturdashi marks the traditional culmination of the celebrations.
