Harivansh to Lead Indian Delegation at IPU Assembly

Indian MPs to participate in global parliamentary discussions on governance, inclusivity, peace and sustainable development in Tanzania

New Delhi, 3rd Oct: Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Harivansh will lead an Indian parliamentary delegation to the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania, from October 5 to 9, 2026.

The delegation has departed for Tanzania to participate in the Assembly and related meetings, which will bring parliamentarians from around the world together under the theme “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all.”

The Indian delegation includes Lok Sabha MPs Anurag Singh Thakur, Aparajita Sarangi, Sanjay Jaiswal, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Lata Wankhede and Bijuli Kalita Medhi, along with Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra and Lok Sabha MP N. K. Premachandran.

Harivansh will participate in the IPU Governing Council, General Debate and discussion on the emergency item. He will also participate in the hearing with candidates for the position of IPU President.

Members of the Indian delegation will take part in panel discussions, workshops and meetings covering a wide range of global issues, including democracy and human rights, peace and international security, sustainable development, women’s participation, science and technology, counter-terrorism, health and mental health.

Other subjects on the agenda include critical minerals, artificial intelligence and the future of work, maritime security, climate change, and protection of mountain and ocean ecosystems.

India’s participation reflects its continued engagement with the IPU and its emphasis on parliamentary diplomacy, multilateral dialogue and cooperation among legislatures on issues concerning global peace, development, democracy and community empowerment.
