New Delhi, 4th Oct: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences and MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, hosted a luncheon interaction at his New Delhi residence for Delhi-based medical alumni from Jammu, many of whom were his former students at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
The gathering brought together doctors and medical professionals who have since risen to senior positions across hospitals, academic institutions and healthcare organisations in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions.
Dr. Jitendra Singh recalled his association with GMC Jammu before entering full-time public life and said it was particularly gratifying to meet former students and see their professional progress.
The former students also shared memories of their classroom days and spoke about their professional journeys, turning the luncheon into a warm reunion between a teacher and his former students.
Alumni serving across medical specialities
The alumni attending the interaction represent a wide range of medical specialities, including medicine, neurology, pulmonary medicine, oncology, psychiatry, pharmacology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, hepatology, radiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and hospital administration.
Several former students are currently serving in senior clinical, academic and administrative positions at leading hospitals and medical institutions.
Among those present were Dr. Sheikh Yasir Islam, Professor of Medicine, Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr. Sumbul Erum, Noida; Dr. Sujata Thapa and Dr. Padma Lahdol of RML Hospital; Dr. Akhil of Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr. Atul of Max Hospital, Noida; Dr. Ekta Arora of GIMS; Dr. Sanjay Fotedar of Rohtak; Dr. Shikhaa Mahajan of SHKM Government Medical College, Mewat; and Dr. Heena Kudyar and Dr. Himani Kudyar.
Other alumni included medical professionals associated with BLK Hospital, AIIMS, Apollo Hospitals, Mahajan Diagnostic Centre, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Medanta Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and other institutions.
Former students recall classroom memories
The former students recalled attending Dr. Jitendra Singh’s classes at GMC Jammu and shared memories of their academic years.
The interaction provided an opportunity for the alumni to reconnect after several years, discuss their professional journeys and express gratitude for the academic foundation and guidance they received during their formative years.
Their careers have taken them across specialised clinical care, medical education, research and healthcare administration, with several contributing to prominent institutions across the Delhi-NCR region.

Dr. Jitendra Singh said that for a teacher, seeing former students progress in life, attain senior positions and contribute meaningfully to society is among the most fulfilling aspects of the profession.
He expressed happiness over the achievements of his former students and their continued contribution to the healthcare sector.
