WASHINGTRON – US President Donald Trump on Sunday has announced the creation of the Super Intelligence Force a new federal task force that will coordinate the executive branch’s approach to advanced technology and help lead the country’s national efforts in the field.
Trump administration has given its artificial intelligence policy a striking new name and a new federal structure.
Washington is giving its AI strategy a new name, a new task force and a much bigger mandate.
Tech giants and national security officials in the mix, Trump is putting advanced technology firmly at the centre of his administration.
The move came days after Trump signed an executive order titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence”, which directed the US government to replace the terms
“Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in official executive branch operations to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Trump announced the new task force in a post on Truth Social, linked its creation to the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, which brought together major technology companies and the administration.
In his announcement, Trump said the Super Intelligence Force would become a central point of coordination between the federal government, private companies and different groups across American society.
“Following the Historic White House Accord on Super Intelligence, where the World’s most important Technology Companies came together, and confirmed their responsibilities to the American People, I am announcing the formation of the Super Intelligence Force (SIF),” Trump wrote.
The task force aims to coordinate the federal government’s work in the sector and help maintain the US position as a global leader in advanced technology.
Trump said the initiative would also focus on protecting American interests and improving the lives of people in the country.
“The Super Intelligence Force is tasked with coordinating the effort of the Federal Government to ensure that America continues to lead the World in Super Intelligence,” he wrote.
He described the technology as potentially bigger in impact than both the Industrial Revolution and the internet.
The task force will also act as the government’s main liaison with civil society, safety advocates and the private sector.
The creation of the SIF follows Trump’s executive order that introduced a major change in the language used by the federal government.
Under the order, the US government will no longer recognize or use “Artificial Intelligence” or “AI” as official terminology, to the maximum extent allowed under existing law. Instead, the administration will use “Super Intelligence” and “SI”.
The order also temporarily applies the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence under Title 15 of the United States Code to the new term “Super Intelligence”.
The administration has said this is an interim measure while it works towards creating a separate legal definition.
The executive order gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to submit proposed legislative language to Congress.
The proposal is expected to establish a new federal statutory definition of “Super Intelligence” and recommend changes to existing US laws where necessary to bring them into line with the new terminology.
Trump has put together a four-member leadership team for the new task force.
The group brings together officials from intelligence, defence, technology policy, trade regulation and federal personnel operations.
The four leaders are: Jay Clayton, Director of National Intelligence
Andrew Ferguson, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission
Emil Michael, Chief Technology Officer and Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering
Scott Kupor, Director of the Office of Personnel Management
Trump said the four officials would report directly to him and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
“The President of the United States (ME!), and the Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles,” Trump wrote as he described the reporting structure.
The arrangement places the task force directly under the White House rather than leaving the issue to a single existing federal department.
The SIF is expected to have a wide mandate.
Trump said the task force would coordinate the federal government’s engagement with consumers, public interest groups, religious organisations, critical infrastructure providers and technology companies working in the field.
The administration’s stated aim is to bring these different groups into discussions about the development and use of advanced technology.
The task force will therefore operate beyond traditional government technology policy. Its brief also has public safety, infrastructure, business and national security.
Trump said the effort was necessary to ensure that the US remains at the forefront of the technology.
The announcement followed a high-level White House luncheon attended by some of the biggest names in the technology industry.
SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, along with other senior technology executives were present.
Trump used the meeting to underline the scale of the technological changes taking place.
“It is the biggest thing there is — maybe the biggest thing there’s ever been. It’s much bigger than the Internet,” Trump said at the time.
He also described the growth of the sector as “unbelievable” for the United States.
The meeting resulted in discussions around a White House Accord on Super Intelligence, with technology executives and administration officials later briefing reporters about the initiative.
The accord focused on developing the technology while placing an emphasis on safety.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said technology companies wanted Americans and their customers to have confidence in how the technology would work.
“We want to give the American people and our customers confidence that the technology works in the way we intended,” Zuckerberg said.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei also stressed cooperation between the government and technology companies.
“We all need to work together to make sure that we can win and we can win safely,” Amodei said.
He added that working with Trump and others involved in the initiative would be necessary if the US wanted to advance the technology while managing its risks.
“If we do this right, if we work with the President and everyone here, we can win safely,” he said.
The White House initiative is not just about technology and business.
National security has emerged as one of its central themes, with intelligence and defence officials playing a direct role in the new task force.
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton highlighted the importance of maintaining US leadership in the sector from a national security perspective.
“The consensus today around that national security issue was being a leader in America in AI is the most important thing for national security,” Clayton said.
