Jammu, 17th Oct: The Vansh Sabre Sports Foundation (VSSF) has submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, seeking practical measures to support athletes and create a more sports-friendly environment across the region. The memorandum was submitted by Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Gupta in the presence of Anil Modi, S. Sarwant Singh Gill and S. Tajinder Singh.

The Foundation highlighted the challenges athletes face due to transportation expenses, disrupted training schedules and travel-related difficulties while preparing for national and international competitions. It urged the administration to consider measures that could reduce these barriers and help sportspersons focus on their performance.

One of the key proposals is free travel for eligible athletes on e-buses operating within the Jammu Municipal Corporation area, covering its 74 wards. The Foundation suggested that a valid athlete identity card or another verification mechanism approved by the authorities could be used to establish eligibility. The initiative, it said, would reduce daily commuting expenses and improve access to training centres and sports venues.

Dr. Gupta also proposed reviewing the venues for official Republic Day and Independence Day celebrations, currently held at M.A. Stadium in Jammu. Subject to feasibility and approval by the competent authorities, venues such as Gulshan Ground, BSF Stadium and Army Stadium in Sunjwan could be examined to minimise disruption to athletes’ training schedules and access to sports facilities.

The Foundation further requested suitable assistance for international athletes travelling through Jammu Airport and Srinagar Airport. Where permitted under airport policies and security requirements, this could include access to a VIP lounge or a designated priority area to facilitate their journeys.

Dr. Gupta said athlete-focused public arrangements could help address practical difficulties faced by sportspersons while encouraging young people to take up sports and pursue excellence.

The Foundation has urged the administration to examine these proposals and, where appropriate, refer them to the concerned departments for further consideration and action.
