New Delhi, 17th Oct: The Supreme Court expressed displeasure over delays in addressing road safety concerns near the Delhi High Court, setting November 25 as the deadline for concrete action. In a pointed remark delivered in a lighter vein, the bench warned that it would stage a sit-in outside the High Court’s main gate if the work remained unfinished.

“If you don’t do it, both of us (the top court bench) will be at the main gate of the Delhi High Court, and we will not go home until you complete the work. That’s for sure. We won’t allow you to go home either,” the bench remarked.

The case concerns safety at a crossing on Mathura Road near the Delhi High Court, where inadequate traffic management and pedestrian protection have raised concerns. The court emphasised that discussions and committees must lead to visible improvements on the ground.

During the hearing, the Additional Solicitor General informed the bench that a committee was examining the issue and that he had spoken to senior officials. The court questioned the need for a high-level committee and suggested involving the amicus curiae to identify the specific problems at the site and help develop a practical solution.

The bench directed the authorities to complete the necessary work before the next hearing. It also warned that the Chief Secretary would have to appear in court alongside the Additional Solicitor General if a concrete solution was not implemented by the deadline.

The matter will be heard again on November 25, when the court is expected to assess the progress made by the authorities.
