Kolkata, 5th May: BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari set his sights on the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections after registering high-profile victories in both Bhabanipur and Nandigram constituencies in West Bengal.
Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur by a margin of 15,105 votes after completion of all counting rounds, marking a significant political upset. He also secured victory in Nandigram, reaffirming his dominance in the constituency.
The results mirror the 2021 contest in Nandigram, where Adhikari had unseated Banerjee in a closely fought battle that reshaped the state’s political dynamics.
Buoyed by the outcome, Adhikari indicated that the BJP’s next major focus would be Uttar Pradesh, targeting the 2027 Assembly elections. He also took aim at opposition leaders across parties, signalling an aggressive political strategy going forward.
Paying tribute to party workers who lost their lives in political violence, Adhikari described the results as a decisive rejection of the Trinamool Congress.
He alleged that voters across communities supported the BJP, crediting the party’s performance to broader ideological backing and leadership at the national level.
Once a close aide of Banerjee and a key figure in the Trinamool Congress, Adhikari has now emerged as a central leader in the BJP’s Bengal unit and is being seen as a potential contender for a leading role in the state’s future political setup.
