Hooghly, 20th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday participated in Paschimbanga Divas celebrations in Hooghly and launched, dedicated and laid the foundation stones of multiple development projects across sectors including railways, agriculture, rural development, fisheries and animal husbandry.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said the occasion was not merely a remembrance of a date but a tribute to West Bengal’s rich history, cultural heritage and the sacrifices made to preserve its identity during the Partition period.
Recalling the contribution of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Modi said June 20 holds special significance as it ensured that West Bengal remained an integral part of India.
The Prime Minister also released the 23rd instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, under which over ₹18,880 crore was transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers across the country.
Highlighting the Centre’s vision of a developed India by 2047, Modi said the development of Eastern India remains the foundation of this mission under the “Mission Purvodaya” initiative, with West Bengal playing a vital role.
He said the new government in the state is accelerating long-pending projects and implementing welfare schemes including Ayushman Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, improved agricultural initiatives and enhanced infrastructure projects.
The Prime Minister also highlighted projects related to railway connectivity, fisheries infrastructure and farmers’ welfare, saying these initiatives would strengthen rural economies and create new opportunities for growth and employment.
Modi urged citizens to preserve Bengal’s cultural legacy while contributing to the journey of building a stronger and developed India.
