Kolkata, 29th April: The BJP on Wednesday accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of serious electoral malpractice in Falta, located within the politically sensitive Diamond Harbour region represented by Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee.

According to BJP allegations, multiple polling booths in Falta had voting machines where the BJP option was allegedly obstructed using tape, effectively preventing voters from selecting the party.

Senior BJP leader Amit Malviya termed the alleged incident a deliberate attempt at electoral manipulation and called for immediate repolling in all affected booths.

The BJP described the alleged malpractice as part of what it called the “Diamond Harbour Model,” linking it to broader concerns over electoral fairness in the constituency.

The allegations have added fresh controversy to Bengal’s high-stakes second phase of Assembly elections, already marred by violence, booth clashes and accusations between major political parties.

The Trinamool Congress has yet to officially respond to the specific allegations.

Election authorities are expected to examine complaints and determine whether further action, including repolling, is warranted.

The Diamond Harbour region remains politically significant due to its association with Abhishek Banerjee, a central figure in the Trinamool’s leadership structure.
