New Delhi, 17th Oct: A Delhi court on Saturday issued bailable warrants against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a 2018 defamation case after a process server reported that his residence was locked while attempting to serve a summons.
Judicial Magistrate Rahul Jain issued the warrants in the case filed by Vikas Pandey, a BJP IT Cell member, who accused Rathee of defamation over a video uploaded on his YouTube channel. The detailed court order is awaited.
The court has listed the matter for further proceedings on October 31. The development follows a fresh summons issued to Rathee on October 12, when the court noted that the complainant had been attempting to serve him for several years.
The court had directed that the fresh summons be sent to Rathee’s residence in Gurugram, Haryana. During the proceedings, advocate Samaksh Sharma, appearing for Pandey, submitted that Rathee ordinarily resides in Austria and had travelled to India to attend protests in Delhi organised by the Cockroach Janata Party.
The court had initially summoned Rathee in July 2019. The latest order marks another development in the long-running defamation proceedings.
