Kolkata, 30th April: The Bharatiya Janata Party appears poised for a historic electoral breakthrough in West Bengal, with multiple exit polls projecting a major surge that could potentially unseat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress after 15 years in power.

According to the latest projections, the BJP could secure a commanding majority in the 294-member Assembly, with estimates placing it well above the 148-seat threshold required to form government.

One of the strongest projections suggests the BJP could emerge with around 192 seats, while the Trinamool Congress may fall to nearly 100 seats.

The forecasts indicate significant BJP gains among Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe voters, while Trinamool is expected to largely retain Muslim voter support.

If accurate, the results would mark one of the BJP’s most significant state-level victories, transforming Bengal’s political landscape after years of gradual expansion in the state.

Since 2016, the BJP has steadily increased its presence by aggressively targeting issues such as corruption, law and order, women’s safety and economic stagnation.

The 2026 election has been widely viewed as a high-stakes contest for both parties, intensified further by controversial voter roll revisions and sharply polarized campaigning.

While exit polls can vary in accuracy, the broader trend suggests that Bengal may be on the verge of its biggest political shift since Mamata Banerjee ended the Left Front’s 35-year rule in 2011.

Official counting on May 4 will determine whether these projections translate into a landmark saffron victory.
