New Delhi, 30th April: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday extended heartfelt greetings to the nation on the eve of Buddha Purnima, urging citizens to embrace Lord Buddha’s ideals of compassion, truth and inner transformation.
In his message, Birla said Buddha Purnima is not merely a festival but a collective resolve to walk the path of awareness, spirituality and humanity.
He described Gautama Buddha’s life as an extraordinary journey of sacrifice, wisdom and compassion that continues to offer practical guidance for modern human challenges.
Birla emphasized that Buddha’s teachings — including the Middle Path, Four Noble Truths and Eightfold Path — remain deeply relevant in contemporary society.
He noted that Lord Buddha’s philosophy of non-violence, tolerance and equanimity provides a moral framework for overcoming ignorance, anger and ego.
Invoking the message “Appa Deepo Bhava” (Be your own light), the Speaker encouraged citizens to seek personal transformation through self-awareness and kindness.
His message reinforced the enduring spiritual and ethical significance of Buddhist thought in building a peaceful and inclusive society.
Buddha Purnima is being observed across India and globally as a celebration of enlightenment, peace and universal compassion.
