Shivraj Singh Chouhan Clears MSP Procurement to Protect Farmers from Distress Sales

New Delhi, 8th July: The Centre has approved the procurement of 87,226 metric tonnes (MT) of copra and 96,879 MT of Totapuri mangoes from farmers in Tamil Nadu, providing major relief to growers facing price fluctuations.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the procurement following a proposal from the Tamil Nadu government. The copra procurement includes 87,000 MT of milling copra and 226 MT of ball copra under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The total MSP value of the approved copra procurement exceeds ₹1,049.16 crore, aimed at protecting farmers from distress sales and ensuring remunerative prices.

The Centre has also approved the procurement of 96,879 MT of Totapuri mangoes under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) at a Market Intervention Price of ₹1,545.41 per quintal.

The government said the intervention would provide price stability, safeguard farmers’ incomes and strengthen the rural economy by ensuring better returns for agricultural produce.
