Bengaluru, 27th June: Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on Friday paid tributes to Nadaprabhu Sri Kempegowda on his 517th birth anniversary, describing the founder of Bengaluru as a visionary administrator whose ideals of inclusive governance, sustainable development and social harmony continue to inspire modern India.

Addressing the commemorative event in Bengaluru, the Vice-President said Kempegowda envisioned a city where people from different communities, professions and faiths could live and prosper together. He said Bengaluru’s identity today as a “Mini Bharat” reflects that inclusive vision.

Highlighting Kempegowda’s contributions to planned urban development, Radhakrishnan said his emphasis on well-designed markets, neighbourhoods, interconnected lakes, water channels and large-scale tree plantation offers valuable lessons for tackling present-day challenges such as water scarcity and climate change.

He said Bengaluru’s emergence as India’s technology and innovation capital rests on the strong foundations laid by Kempegowda nearly five centuries ago, adding that his long-term vision and institution-building continue to guide India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.

Calling upon young people to emulate Kempegowda’s ideals, the Vice-President urged them to contribute actively to nation-building through innovation, public service and social responsibility. He also stressed the importance of water conservation and advocated interlinking of rivers for better utilisation of water resources and improved support for farmers.

Karnataka Governor Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Union Ministers H.D. Kumaraswamy and V. Somanna, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka and other dignitaries attended the programme.
