Indian MPs Join 153rd IPU Assembly in Tanzania
Delegation led by Harivansh participates in meetings on health, women’s leadership, terrorism and bilateral cooperation

Arusha, 6th Oct: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh is participating in the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Arusha, Tanzania. Members of the delegation took part in several meetings and engagements on the first day of the Assembly on October 5.
Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Lok Sabha MP and member of the IPU Committee on Health, participated in the committee’s sessions.
Harivansh and other members of the delegation also attended the meeting of the Asia-Pacific Geopolitical Group. During the meeting, Aparajita Sarangi, Lok Sabha MP and member of the IPU Executive Committee, briefed participants on recent activities and initiatives undertaken by the Executive Committee.
Women Parliamentarians’ Forum
The Forum of Women Parliamentarians also held sessions during the day.
Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Lok Sabha MP, participated in a discussion on “Inclusive social development for all: Parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities” and presented India’s perspective.
Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Lok Sabha MP, participated in the second session of the Forum, which focused on “Women Leadership”.
Dr Sasmit Patra, Rajya Sabha MP, attended the meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
Lata Wankhede, Lok Sabha MP and member of the IPU High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism (HLAG-CTVE), participated in the Board meeting of the group.
Bilateral meetings
Members of the Indian delegation led by Harivansh also held bilateral meetings with Milton Dick, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, and Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The meetings focused on issues of mutual interest.
The Parliament of Tanzania also organised the formal inaugural ceremony of the 153rd IPU Assembly. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan addressed the ceremony and formally declared the Assembly open.
Harivansh, along with MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Anurag Singh Thakur, N.K. Premachandran and Sasmit Patra, attended the inaugural ceremony and interacted with several Tanzanian government ministers, including the Foreign Minister.
