New Delhi, 6th July: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Monday released the report of the Expert Committee on Energy Statistics, recommending a stronger and internationally aligned framework to improve the quality and consistency of India’s energy data.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, recommended adopting global statistical standards and uniform methodologies across energy ministries. It also proposed improving data on biofuels, captive power generation, electricity consumption by electric vehicles and sector-wise coal and electricity use.
MoSPI said the recommendations will help bridge key data gaps, strengthen evidence-based policymaking and support monitoring of India’s renewable energy transition and Net Zero goals.
The ministry said continued coordination among stakeholders will be essential for developing a reliable, integrated and internationally comparable energy statistics framework.
