New Delhi, 14th July: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal began the Spain leg of his official visit with a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening the India-Spain economic partnership and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, manufacturing and innovation.
The visit comes as India and Spain mark 70 years of diplomatic relations and celebrate the India-Spain Dual Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence 2026.
Goyal held bilateral talks with Spain’s First Vice-President and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Carlos Cuerpo Caballero, where both sides discussed measures to boost bilateral trade, improve market access, strengthen resilient supply chains and expand commercial cooperation.
The discussions focused on renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, infrastructure and innovation. Both leaders also exchanged views on the proposed India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and agreed to utilise the Fast Track Mechanism to facilitate investments and enhance business confidence.
The Union Minister also met Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu Boher to explore collaboration in sustainable manufacturing, clean energy, mobility, tourism, railways and smart infrastructure.
Both leaders highlighted the C-295 aircraft programme as a successful example of industrial cooperation under India’s Make in India initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening industry-to-industry partnerships.
A key highlight of the visit was the India-Spain Business Forum, jointly organised by FICCI, the Chamber of Commerce of Spain, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) and ICEX Spain Trade and Investment.
Addressing business leaders, Goyal highlighted India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy and invited Spanish companies to invest in sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, renewable energy, digital economy and advanced technologies.
The Minister also held discussions with senior officials of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, Spain’s investment promotion agency, to encourage greater investment flows and technology partnerships between the two countries.
Concluding the day’s engagements, Goyal interacted with members of the Indian business delegation and encouraged stronger business collaborations to further expand bilateral economic ties.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of India and Spain to deepen their strategic economic partnership through enhanced trade, investment, innovation and people-to-people exchanges.
