New Delhi, 22nd July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called for a whole-of-government approach to accelerate India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat, stressing that citizen welfare must remain at the centre of all reforms and governance should evolve to meet changing national requirements.
Chairing a high-level meeting of Secretaries at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, the Prime Minister reviewed the progress of rural development, agriculture, social welfare and allied sectors towards achieving the country’s development goals.
Modi said reforms should be designed around the needs of citizens and deliver meaningful transformation rather than merely improving government processes. He emphasised that governance systems must adapt to changing times and suggested comprehensive mapping of emerging requirements across ministries and departments.
Calling for greater inter-ministerial coordination, the Prime Minister urged departments to break institutional silos and work collectively to achieve national development objectives. He said the vision of Viksit Bharat should become a Jan Andolan, with India’s youth forming the foundation of the movement.
Highlighting the growing challenge of drug abuse among young people, Modi called for an institutional mechanism to ensure better convergence among departments working on youth-centric initiatives.
The Prime Minister also advocated an integrated strategy for sports development, saying India should aspire to become a global sports hub by promoting sports tourism, hosting major international sporting events and encouraging technological innovation and startups in the sector.
On agriculture, Modi said wider adoption of the PM-KUSUM Scheme could transform the sector by expanding clean energy use among farmers. He also stressed the need for global skill mapping to align India’s workforce with emerging international opportunities.
During the meeting, Secretaries of various ministries shared their experiences, challenges and suggestions related to their respective sectors. The Prime Minister outlined his vision for accelerating implementation, improving coordination and ensuring faster progress towards the goal of a developed India.
The meeting was attended by the Cabinet Secretary, Secretaries of key ministries and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.
