OSLO, 18th May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday was conferred the “Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit”, Norway’s highest civilian honour for foreign Heads of Government, by Harald V during a special ceremony in Oslo.

The prestigious award was presented in recognition of Modi’s outstanding service in the interest of Norway and humanity, according to an official statement.

Expressing gratitude after receiving the honour, the Prime Minister thanked King Harald V and the people of Norway for the recognition.

Modi dedicated the award to the longstanding friendship between India and Norway and described it as a tribute to the trust, warmth and affection shared by the people of both countries.

The Prime Minister said the honour reflected the deepening partnership and goodwill between the two nations.

The conferment of the Grand Cross is being seen as a symbol of growing India-Norway ties and expanding cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors.

India and Norway have strengthened engagement in areas including trade, maritime cooperation, renewable energy, climate action and the blue economy in recent years.
