New Delhi, 6th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the road accident in Punjab’s Ferozepur district that claimed multiple lives and left several others injured.
Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, the Prime Minister said he was deeply pained by the tragic mishap and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.
The Prime Minister also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the victims and their families.
According to an official statement, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each person who lost their life in the accident.
Injured victims will receive financial assistance of Rs 50,000 each from the PMNRF.
In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Deeply pained to hear about a mishap in Ferozepur district, Punjab. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.”
He added, “An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000.”
The announcement came hours after a devastating collision on the Fazilka-Ferozepur highway in which eight people, including a minor girl, were killed and several others injured while travelling to Harike Pattan for the immersion of a relative’s ashes.
Authorities are continuing relief and medical assistance efforts for those affected by the tragedy.
