New Delhi, 13th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Vice President of Nigeria Kashim Shettima Mustapha on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
Shettima is leading the Nigerian delegation to the summit, which includes ministers responsible for foreign affairs, industry, trade and investment, communications, innovation and digital technology, humanitarian affairs, poverty reduction, women affairs, and science and technology.
The two leaders reviewed the multifaceted India-Nigeria relationship and expressed satisfaction with steady progress across several sectors. Discussions focused on trade and investment, defence and security, energy partnership, agriculture, health and digital technologies.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the India-Nigeria Strategic Partnership.
Modi and Shettima also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including priorities and concerns of the Global South. They emphasised the importance of stronger cooperation in multilateral forums and efforts towards a more representative, inclusive and multipolar international order.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s continued commitment to strengthening its partnership with Nigeria and deepening engagement with Africa. Shettima appreciated India’s development experience and its contribution to capacity building and economic development in Nigeria.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to building a stronger, forward-looking partnership and contributing to peace, prosperity and development in both countries and the wider Global South.
