New Delhi, 29th Oct: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the 54th PRAGATI meeting at Seva Teerth on Wednesday, reviewing infrastructure projects worth more than ₹16,000 crore across 31 States and Union Territories. The meeting focused on resolving implementation bottlenecks, improving coordination between the Centre and states, and ensuring the timely delivery of development projects and welfare schemes.
The review covered projects related to the Railways, PM Ekta Malls and Bulk Drug Parks. Modi stressed the need for clear accountability, regular monitoring and timely decisions to ensure projects are completed as scheduled and deliver tangible benefits to citizens.
During the review of PM Ekta Malls, the Prime Minister said the facilities should promote local products, support artisans and help small businesses expand. He called for linking the malls with tourism and local enterprises to generate demand and create employment opportunities in rural production, packaging, storage and transportation.
PM Modi also urged Chief Secretaries to review the progress of the malls regularly and ensure their timely completion.
Reviewing Bulk Drug Parks in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance of strengthening domestic production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and other essential inputs. The focus, he said, should be on reducing dependence on external sources and improving self-reliance in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
On welfare delivery, PM Modi asked Chief Secretaries to hold monthly reviews with District Magistrates to identify implementation gaps and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive scheme benefits on time. He emphasised that governance should prioritise outcomes over expenditure, with public spending translating into measurable improvements in people’s lives.
Referring to the Aspirational Districts and Aspirational Blocks programmes, he highlighted the importance of coordination, consistent monitoring and local accountability in accelerating development in underserved areas. He also noted that sustained governance efforts had helped nearly 25 crore people move out of multidimensional poverty.
The Prime Minister also reviewed the redevelopment of Ahmedabad railway station and called for faster redevelopment of major stations across the country. He said upgraded stations should function as multimodal transport hubs, offering seamless connectivity with metro services and other transport networks while improving passenger convenience.
Concluding the review, Modi directed the concerned ministries and state governments to resolve bottlenecks in mission mode, strengthen inter-agency coordination and monitor progress at the highest levels. He called for a proactive work culture in which officials anticipate challenges, take timely decisions and remain accountable for completing projects.
