The visit will include the inauguration of a key Chennai Metro Phase II corridor and the dedication of a major brain research centre at IIT Madras.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to take a ride on the Chennai Metro from Porur Bypass Station to Poonamallee Bypass Station and back at around 11:30 AM. He will subsequently perform darshan and pooja at the Jalakandeswarar Temple before visiting the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras.
At around 1:30 PM, Modi will inaugurate projects, lay foundation stones and dedicate infrastructure initiatives to the nation. He will later attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School at approximately 3 PM.
Metro Rail and Highway Connectivity
A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of the Poonamallee–Vadapalani stretch of Chennai Metro Rail Phase II, built at a cost of around ₹4,900 crore. The corridor includes a 3.7-km double-decker structure and advanced signalling systems designed to support driverless operations. It is expected to improve connectivity between Chennai’s western suburbs and the city centre while reducing commuting time.
National Highway projects worth around ₹3,700 crore will also be launched. These include the four-laned Vadugapatti–Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744 and the Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A. Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on NH-83 to ease traffic movement through the town.
Railway Projects and Amrit Stations
Railway infrastructure projects worth over ₹750 crore will be dedicated to the nation or inaugurated. These include the Karaikal–Peralam railway line and three rail flyovers in Coimbatore and surrounding areas, aimed at reducing congestion and improving road safety.
Five redeveloped railway stations—Palani, Vellore Cantonment, Ambasamudram, Paramakkudi and Namakkal—will also be inaugurated under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Port Infrastructure and Petroleum Investment
The Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects at Chennai Port, Kamarajar Port and V.O. Chidambaranar Port to expand cargo-handling capacity and improve maritime logistics.
At Chennai Port, the initiatives include a paved storage yard, four export-import godowns, an upgraded cruise terminal and a seafarers’ club. At V.O. Chidambaranar Port, eight development projects will focus on cargo and container capacity, cleaner maritime energy infrastructure and improved logistics. At Kamarajar Port, Modi will inaugurate the Coal Berth-3 project and lay the foundation stone for dredging works linked to a container terminal expansion.
He will also lay the foundation stone for a ₹1,620-crore Group II/III Lube Oil Base Stocks project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Manali Refinery. With a planned capacity of 270,000 metric tonnes annually, the project aims to strengthen domestic production of high-quality base stocks used in premium lubricants.
IIT Madras Brain Centre to Advance Research
The Prime Minister will dedicate the Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre at IIT Madras to the nation and launch a scientific mission to map more than 100 human brains into three-dimensional atlases at cellular resolution, covering stages from foetal development to old age.
He will also release C-STROKE, a human ischaemic stroke atlas containing more than 1,000 annotated microscopic sections from a stroke-affected brain. The resource is expected to support researchers in identifying potential therapeutic targets.
School Marks 50 Years
PM Modi will conclude his scheduled engagements by attending the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School. The institution marks five decades of educational service, with an emphasis on academic excellence, discipline, cultural values and holistic development.
The visit brings together major infrastructure investments and scientific research initiatives, with a focus on improving transport links, strengthening maritime capacity and supporting advanced research in Tamil Nadu.
