President Murmu Unveils Mahatma Gandhi Bust in North Macedonia

SKOPJE 22nd July: President Droupadi Murmu, along with North Macedonian President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, on Wednesday unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Museum of the City of Skopje, describing his ideals of truth, non-violence and peaceful coexistence as more relevant than ever in a world facing conflict and division.

Addressing the gathering, Murmu said Mahatma Gandhi belonged to India but his message belongs to all humanity. She said his life demonstrated that truth and non-violence are powerful instruments for securing justice, dignity and freedom.

“At a time when the world faces conflict, intolerance and division, Gandhiji’s faith in dialogue, compassion and peaceful coexistence remains profoundly relevant,” the President said, adding that his ideals continue to inspire people to reject hatred, resolve differences peacefully and serve society with courage and empathy.

Murmu said the bust would stand as a lasting symbol of the friendship between India and North Macedonia and their shared commitment to peace, tolerance and humanity.

Among those present at the ceremony were Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, and Members of Parliament Dr. Dinesh Sharma and Vijay Baghel.

Earlier in the day, the President and her North Macedonian counterpart visited the Mother Teresa Memorial in Skopje. Mother Teresa was born in the city before moving to India, where she later received the Bharat Ratna in 1980 for her humanitarian service.

President Murmu is scheduled to leave for Bucharest, Romania, on Thursday for the final leg of her three-nation State visit.
