Sharad Pawar Moves Supreme Court Against EC Order Recognizing Ajit Pawar-led NCP

Veteran leader Sharad Pawar on Tuesday took a significant legal step by moving the Supreme Court to challenge an Election Commission (EC) order recognizing the faction led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar as the legitimate Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The plea was filed by Sharad Pawar in his personal capacity through his lawyer Abhishek Jebaraj on Monday evening, marking a decisive move in the ongoing political feud within the NCP.

Prior to this, the Ajit Pawar faction had proactively filed a caveat through advocate Abhikalp Pratap Singh to prevent any ex-parte order in favor of the Sharad Pawar group if they approached the top court.

The Election Commission’s announcement on February 6th, which recognized the Ajit Pawar faction as the authentic NCP, dealt a significant blow to the party founder, Sharad Pawar.

Furthermore, the EC allotted the NCP’s symbol, the ‘clock,’ to the group led by Ajit Pawar, solidifying their recognition as the official NCP.

The decision by the Election Commission was made following a rigorous examination of several criteria, including the aims and objectives outlined in the party’s constitution, adherence to party regulations, and the demonstration of majority support both organizationally and legislatively, as articulated by the EC.

As this legal battle unfolds in the apex court, the political landscape within the NCP and Maharashtra’s political arena is expected to witness further developments.
