New Delhi, 19th Oct: Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday launched the upgraded Agri Welfare Portal, designed to provide farmers across the country with easy mobile access to government schemes, financial assistance and agricultural information.

The initiative aims to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India vision by bringing multiple agricultural services onto a single digital platform and reducing the need for farmers to visit government offices or navigate different websites.

Addressing the launch programme, Chouhan said technology should make government services more accessible and simplify the lives of farmers, particularly those in rural areas. He emphasised that the portal must remain user-friendly, especially for small and marginal farmers and people with limited formal education.

The minister directed officials to ensure that information on the portal remained accurate and regularly updated, warning that outdated or incomplete details could undermine public trust. He also announced a special training campaign through Krishi Vigyan Kendras across the country to help farmers use the portal and other digital tools effectively.

Single Platform for Agricultural Services
The upgraded portal will serve as a single-window gateway to major government initiatives, including PM-KISAN, AgriStack and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. It is intended to simplify access to scheme details, subsidies, eligibility requirements, applications and other ministry services.

The platform will also connect Farmer Producer Organisations, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies, agricultural scientists, researchers and startups, creating a shared digital space for the wider agricultural ecosystem.

Developed in accordance with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Digital Brand Identity Manual 3.0 and Guidelines for Indian Government Websites 3.0, the portal is designed to provide a secure, mobile-friendly and accessible experience, including for persons with disabilities.

Focus on Transparency and Rural Accessibility
According to the government, the portal will provide information on agricultural schemes, subsidies, rules and digital services in one place, helping farmers save time and effort.

Online eligibility checks and direct application facilities are expected to improve transparency, while Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) will support the direct transfer of eligible financial assistance and reduce the role of intermediaries.

Designed with rural connectivity challenges in mind, the platform is intended to function smoothly on basic smartphones and in areas with weak internet connectivity.

Farmers will also be able to access information on weather conditions, scientific farming practices, seed and fertiliser availability, and prevailing market prices for agricultural produce.

The portal incorporates accessibility features, including screen-reader support and simplified navigation, to help visually impaired users and other persons with disabilities access services more easily.

Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Secretary Atish Chandra, Additional Secretary Pramod Meherda, senior officials from the ministry’s Digital Agriculture Division and representatives of the National Informatics Centre attended the launch.

The initiative aims to strengthen digital access to agricultural services and make government assistance easier to navigate for farmers across India.
