Tourism Ministry, Google India Tie Up for Digital Promotion

MoU aims to leverage AI, digital technologies and data insights to showcase India's tourism globally

New Delhi, 1st July: The Ministry of Tourism on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Google India Pvt. Ltd. to strengthen the digital promotion of India’s tourism destinations through artificial intelligence, digital technologies, data-driven insights and capacity-building initiatives.

The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi.

The partnership establishes a framework for collaboration in areas including digital tourism promotion, knowledge sharing, visitor engagement, capacity building and the adoption of emerging technologies to enhance the travel experience for domestic and international tourists.

Speaking on the occasion, Shekhawat said digital technologies have the potential to create immersive experiences that showcase India’s rich cultural and natural heritage to audiences across the world.

“Digital technologies can create immersive experiences that showcase the glory and grandeur of India’s cultural sites to the world. By harnessing cutting-edge technologies, we can transform the way travellers discover, experience and engage with India’s rich cultural and natural heritage,” the minister said.

He said the collaboration reflects the Ministry’s commitment to adopting technology-driven approaches under the Incredible India campaign and expressed confidence that it would strengthen India’s global tourism presence, improve digital outreach and position the country as a modern, accessible and globally competitive travel destination.

Under the agreement, Google India will support the Ministry by providing insights into global travel trends, traveller behaviour and digital engagement patterns to help develop evidence-based tourism promotion strategies.

The collaboration also includes training and capacity-building programmes for Ministry officials on digital marketing, campaign optimisation, content creation and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to enable more targeted and measurable outreach.

The Ministry said the partnership is non-commercial, non-binding and non-exclusive, with no financial implications for either party.

The event was attended by Tourism Secretary Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary and Director General (Tourism) Suman Billa, senior Ministry officials and Preeti Lobana, Country Manager and Vice President of Google India, along with representatives of the technology company.

Both the Ministry of Tourism and Google India reaffirmed their commitment to leveraging innovation and technology to strengthen India’s tourism ecosystem and promote the country as a preferred global travel destination.
