New Delhi, 21st May: C. P. Radhakrishnan, Vice-President of India, on Thursday called for greater encouragement and strengthening of government schools while interacting with a delegation of meritorious students from Guntur at Uprashtrapati Bhavan.
The delegation consisted of 41 students, including 27 girls, from government schools in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district who performed exceptionally well in their Class 10 examinations and are currently on an educational tour to Delhi.
Addressing the students, the Vice-President appreciated the initiative of bringing students from poor and marginalised backgrounds on educational visits to broaden their learning beyond classrooms.
Radhakrishnan said education remains the most powerful tool to transform lives, uplift families and strengthen communities.
Sharing his own experience of studying in a Tamil-medium government school, he said many successful scientists, administrators, teachers, entrepreneurs and national leaders have emerged from public institutions and government schools.
The Vice-President urged Members of Parliament and MLAs to focus on improving government schools and encouraging academic excellence within public education systems.
He told the students that hardships, failures and setbacks make individuals stronger and advised them not to feel discouraged by economic challenges.
“Work hard with sincerity, remain humble in success and use knowledge for the welfare of society,” he told the students.
Radhakrishnan also praised the growing participation of girls in education, noting that 27 out of the 41 meritorious students in the delegation were girls, which he described as a reflection of rising “Nari Shakti” in the country.
Referring to India’s economic progress, the Vice-President said the country is moving steadily towards the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said the dreams and aspirations of young students would play a major role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The Vice-President also advised students to stay away from drugs, harmful addictions and excessive social media use, encouraging them instead to focus on sports, reading and creativity.
Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and Galla Madhavi were also present during the interaction.
