VP Radhakrishnan Calls for Responsible Journalism in AI Era

ALAPPUZHA, 30th Aug: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday called for credible, constructive and responsible journalism in the era of artificial intelligence, saying that public trust remains the greatest asset of a newspaper.
Addressing the 115th Anniversary Celebrations of Kerala Kaumudi in Alappuzha, the Vice President described the newspaper’s 115-year journey as a testament to trust, courage and the enduring power of ideas.
Recalling the legacy of Kerala Kaumudi, founded in 1911 by C. V. Kunhiraman, Radhakrishnan said the newspaper had contributed significantly to social awakening and provided a platform for the voices of marginalised and oppressed sections.
He said journalism had evolved from print to television, digital platforms, social media and artificial intelligence, but the fundamental values of credible information and journalistic ethics remained unchanged.
According to the Vice President, accuracy, fairness, independence and accountability are essential for earning and retaining public trust.
Radhakrishnan also called for constructive journalism that highlights innovation, scientific achievements, compassion, community service and positive social transformation. Such reporting, he said, can educate society and inspire citizens towards nation-building.
He stressed the need for a balanced approach to development and environmental concerns, saying genuine problems should be addressed through practical solutions rather than by politicising every issue or opposing development by default.
Recalling Kerala’s contributions to India, the Vice President highlighted Adi Shankaracharya’s message of unity, Sree Narayana Guru’s message of equality and Mannathu Padmanabhan’s contribution to education.
He also congratulated the people of Keralam on the change in the State’s name, recalling that he was chairing the Rajya Sabha when the Bill was passed on August 12, 2026.
Radhakrishnan expressed hope that Kerala Kaumudi would continue to uphold truth, credibility and public trust as the foundations of journalism and remain a strong voice of Malayalam journalism.
He also presented the Kerala Kaumudi Excellence Awards during the programme.
Governor of Keralam Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Minister for Higher Education Roji M. John, Alappuzha MLA A. D. Thomas, Chathannoor MLA B. B. Gopakumar, Kerala Kaumudi Chief Editor Deepu Ravi, SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan and other dignitaries attended the event.
