New Delhi, 7th July: Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Tuesday reviewed the Mission for Cotton Productivity (Kapas Kanti) and called for faster approval mechanisms, higher cotton yields and stronger global competitiveness for India’s cotton sector.

The Vice President was briefed at the Uprashtrapati Bhavan by Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and senior officials from the Ministries of Agriculture and Textiles.

The presentation highlighted the mission’s focus on boosting cotton productivity through research, technology and improved farming practices, ensuring quality cotton supply through initiatives such as KASTURI Cotton certification and the Kisan Kapas App, and promoting natural fibres to support innovation and sustainability.

Appreciating the mission’s holistic approach, Radhakrishnan stressed the need for measurable targets to improve per-acre cotton yield and narrow the productivity gap with leading cotton-producing countries. He also called for greater public awareness through market-oriented strategies and television documentaries to promote the initiative.
