Gandhinagar, 18th May: Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the automated Madhur Dairy Unit-2 milk processing and packaging plant at Dashela in Gujarat and said the Centre’s “White Revolution 2.0” initiative aims to triple India’s milk production over the next decade.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the new dairy facility was not merely an industrial project but a major step towards economic empowerment of milk-producing families, especially rural women associated with cooperative dairy networks.
Built over 15 acres at a cost of around ₹128 crore, the plant currently has the capacity to process 2.5 lakh litres of milk daily, which will later be expanded to 5 lakh litres per day.
Shah said a significant share of the profits generated through the project would directly reach milk producers, thereby strengthening the rural economy.
The Union Minister said Madhur Dairy, which began operations in 1971 with milk collection of 6,000 litres and a turnover of ₹7,000, has now grown into a major cooperative institution with an annual turnover of ₹628 crore.
Describing it as a successful example of the cooperative model, Shah credited the vision of leaders such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Tribhuvandas Patel and Verghese Kurien for shaping India’s dairy movement.
The minister said dairies such as Amul, Banas Dairy and Mehsana Dairy are increasingly adopting advanced technologies and value-added dairy products to improve incomes of livestock farmers.
He also highlighted the launch of Amul’s AI-powered digital assistant “Sarlaben”, saying it would provide technological support to rural women and livestock rearers by simplifying access to digital services.
According to Shah, nearly 36 lakh women are currently associated with dairy cooperatives in Gujarat, collectively producing around 3 crore litres of milk daily and generating business worth nearly ₹200 crore every day.
The Union Minister added that adoption of circular economy principles in the dairy sector could increase dairy incomes by nearly 20 per cent in the coming years.
During the programme, women milk producers honoured Shah with a Madhur Dairy product kit and certificates were distributed to representatives of milk producer societies.
