Kolkata, 24th April: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday launched a sharp attack on the BJP, declaring that she would shift her political focus to Delhi after securing victory in the ongoing Assembly elections.
Addressing a rally in Kolkata’s Chowringhee area, Banerjee said she aims to unite Opposition parties to challenge the BJP at the national level. She asserted that her party cannot be defeated and vowed to fight against what she termed injustice.
Responding to her remarks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed the claim, saying there was “nothing left” for Banerjee in Bengal and questioning her prospects beyond the state.
Banerjee was campaigning for Trinamool Congress candidate Nayna Bandopadhyay, who is contesting against BJP’s Santosh Pathak in the constituency.
The Chief Minister also targeted the BJP over its organisational approach, alleging political profiling and asserting that her party is closely monitoring its activities.
The exchange comes amid intense campaigning as West Bengal heads into the second phase of polling on April 29. The first phase, held earlier, recorded a voter turnout of over 92 per cent, reflecting strong participation across constituencies.
The Chowringhee seat, held by the All India Trinamool Congress since 2011, will go to polls in the upcoming phase.
The results of the Assembly elections will be declared on May 4.
